Wireless moisture monitor shows soil humidity with ambient temperature readings

This wireless base station with sensor monitors soil moisture indoors and outdoors

This unit makes it very easy to monitor soil moisture conditions of house plants, pot plants outside, the garden, the vegetable garden and your lawn. Now you know when to water. Push the probe of the sensor in the soil and every 90 seconds there will be a wireless transfer from the sensor to the base station of the soil moisture condition (in %) and the (air) temperature. You can connect up to 3 sensors. Additional sensors are available in our webshop. The system has a self learning process to eliminate the influences of different soil. If you connect more sensors, simply push the “channel” button of the base station and the readings of the other sensor(s) will be displayed.

When your plant needs watering a digital flower pot will show it!

In general you may start to water your plant if the soil moisture reading is below 60% and really need to water if it sinks below 50%. A digital flower pot will support you and show you when you need to water. After watering the soil the sensor takes four readings. If these readings are consistent, the sensor will start to send new data. It takes about 5 minutes after watering for the sensor to collect and send updated readings. The wireless moisture monitor has a memory button you can use to display maximum and minimum air temperature and soil moisture per sensor. It also shows the air temperature on the spot, date and time. You can easily switch from Celsius to Fahrenheit. The base station has a flip out desk stand or can be mounted on the wall with 1 screw.

How to use the wireless moisture sensor which monitors water needs

This tool fits well in any office or home to control water needs of your plants

Install two LR6 AA alkaline batteries in the receiver (base station) and don’t touch any key ! Then install two LR3 AA alkaline batteries in the sensor, the blue LED light will show for about 20 seconds. If the base station displays moisture level and temperature, the matching process is finished. However, the readings might not be accurate yet because this process takes at least 6 minutes. Now you’re ready to insert the sensor in the soil where you want to monitor soil moisture. Start watering your plant and after about 4 – 20 minutes the receiver will show 99%. When the moisture level drops, the receiver will show a lower percentage. Generally spoken an average plant will need water when the percentage drops below 50%. Of course there are exceptions to this rule, dependent on the type of plant. If you want to put the sensor in a different location, take out the batteries first and wait for 5 seconds before you put them back to reset the self learning process of the sensor.

General instructions

  • The depth of the probe of the sensor should be around 8 -10 cm
  • Make sure the probe of the sensor is in plain soil without any obstacles like roots and that the soil is tight around the probe of the sensor, otherwise the readings might be less accurate
  • Leave the sensor in the soil when you water your plant
  • Don’t push too hard, this might damage the probe and/or the sensor
  • Don’t submerge the sensor in water. The sensor is water resistant, but not waterproof
  • Clean the probe of the sensor only with a soft, damp cloth and don’t use any solvents
  • The wireless radio signal has a range of 100 meters in free open air without any obstacles. The actual transmission range will vary
  • If you mistrust the readings, remove the sensor and take out the batteries for 5 seconds before putting them back. Insert the probe again (not in the same spot) and wait for maximum 20 minutes to see if the readings improve.

FAQ – about the wireless moisture monitor and the soil moisture sensor

Nothing shows in the display of the receiver

Check the polarity of the batteries and change the batteries if they were properly installed.

The receiver displays some readings, but no moisture and/or temperature

-Check the polarity of the batteries of the sensor and change them if they were properly installed.
-The transmission signal of the data may be out of range, because there are too many obstacles between the sensor and the receiver. In this case the transmission signal in the upper left corner of the receiver will never show (normally every 90 seconds). Insert the sensor closer to the base station or move the wireless moisture monitor closer to the sensor.

The receiver shows moisture and temperature readings which are not accurate

-The sensor needs to be reset to start up the self learning process again. Just take out the batteries for 5 seconds and put them back again.
-The sensor is not ready yet to send updated readings. You need to wait 20 minutes before the readings should be accurate.
-The probe of the sensor hasn’t been inserted in plain soil without any obstacles like roots or stones and/or the soil isn’t very tight around the probe of the sensor.
-The sensor needs to be inserted at least 8 cm
-You removed the sensor when you watered your plant. Put it back close to the original spot and wait for 20 minutes.

How to open the remote sensor?

Pry cap off of sensor with your fingernails or pull the cap off while holding the antenna in your right hand and the plastic housing in your left hand horizontally.

How do I install a second and a third sensor?

Follow the instructions like you did when you installed the first sensor. After you’ve installed the batteries in the wireless moisture monitor you’ll find in the top left corner sensor address pins. It says “address” on the left side and under the address pins you’ll find the numbers “1””, “2” and “3”. There is a black plastic « cap » that can fit over one of the three « prong fittings. » From the factory, the caps are all over the number one fitting. You have to move the cap to the number two setting for the second sensor, and the number three setting for the third sensor. If you now press the CH+ button on the base station you will see it toggles to sensor number 2 and sensor number 3.
